What is an MRI Scan and what is it for?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an advanced diagnostic technology that can provide detailed images of the organs and tissues inside your body.
It can be to detect or diagnose a wide range of conditions with a patient’s brain and spinal cord, bones and joints, spine and back pain, chest and abdomen, pelvic organs, prostate and breasts.
An MRI scan can also detect or diagnose conditions such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, degenerated or herniated invertebral discs, brain aneurysms, multiple sclerosis, strokes, tumours and eye or inner ear disorders. It can also detect or diagnose spinal cord injuries, joint disorders, bone infections or tumours and athletic or traumatic injuries.
Why choose an MRI scan over other diagnostic tests?
If you’re not familiar with MRI scans, they can detect many abnormalities that other diagnostics like CT scans, ultrasound, and x-rays cannot. Unlike CT scans or x-rays, MRI scans expose you to no radiation.
