#Movember is here! Get educated about Prostate MRI Scans

For the month of November, we are donating $50 for every Prostate MRI scan to the Movember Foundation!

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer for men in Canada, and globally more than 1.4 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Early detection is key and can be the difference between life and death. According to the Movember Foundation, if prostate cancer is detected early, survival rates are better than 98%. If detected late, those survival rates plummet to 26%.

It’s recommended that at the age of 50, you should talk to your doctor about getting tested. If there’s someone in your family who has had the cancer, or if you’re African or Caribbean descent, have the conversation with your doctor at 45.

One of the many options to get tested for prostate cancer is a Prostate MRI scan – a safe and noninvasive option. At False Creek Healthcare Centre, our modern facility is home to a GE 3.0 Tesla MRI system. Developed for the most advanced clinical applications, the 3.0T MRI produces images faster, with unprecedented detail.

Benefits of 3.0T MRI scanning include:

  • No radiation exposure
  • On-site physician and nursing staff administer contrast solution
  • State-of-the-art high resolution scanner
  • Double the magnetic field of the 1.5 Tesla MRI
  • Greater diagnostic certainty
  • Ability to detect diseases that can’t be seen with 1.5T

With the higher strength of a 3.0T MRI, an endorectal coil or probe is no longer required to be inserted into the patient’s rectum, which is required in a conventional 1.5T MRI.

This results in a substantially more comfortable patient experience while maintaining the high degree of image quality required to make a confident diagnosis.
