Dr. Barry Cayen

Dr. Barry Cayen is an orthopedic surgeon at Centric Health Surgical Cenre in Toronto, specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction. He performs Total Hip Replacement Surgery using the Direct Anterior approach with a Hana table. The anterior approach affords patients an accelerated recovery in the initial few days and weeks following total hip replacement compared to traditional approaches. He uses computer guidance during hip replacements in order to help optimize surgical outcomes.
Dr. Cayen also performs Partial Knee Replacements and Total Knee Replacements for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. During these procedures, he employs multiple techniques in order to decrease discomfort after surgery. He also performs ACL reconstruction and knee arthroscopy for meniscus tears.
Dr. Cayen completed his bachelor's degree in Life Sciences from Queen’s University and a Master of science degree in exercise physiology from the University of Toronto. He then went on to complete his MD and then Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of Toronto. He has fellowship training in adult reconstruction and orthopedic trauma from St. Michael’s Hospital and sports surgery fellowship training from the Toronto Western Hospital.
Dr. Cayen also has a Masters in Public Health degree from Harvard University with a focus on healthcare management. He has published articles and exercise physiology, joint replaced in surgery and healthcare management.
