Dr. Marcus Lem


General Practicioner

Dr. Marcus Lem is Preventive Medicine specialist and general practitioner based at False Creek Healthcare Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Dr. Lem graduated from McMaster University Medical School and completed his Master of Health Science and residency in Community Medicine at UBC. He was trained in aerospace and diving medicine at the Defence and Civil Institute for Environmental Medicine, and was a federal field epidemiologist in the Office of Public Health Security of Health Canada. He was on the joint Health Canada - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention team investigating SARS in Toronto in 2003, and served as a short-term consultant with UNICEF.

Dr. Lem has worked extensively with Indigenous communities across Canada and held senior medical positions with the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada. He was the Director of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency Program at UBC and Senior Medical Advisor for Addiction and Overdose Prevention at the BC Centre for Disease Control.

Dr. Lem’s Preventive Medicine practice takes a holistic and evidence-based approach to protect, promote and maintain health and well-being. He has specific expertise occupational and environmental health and non-pharmacologic management of chronic pain syndromes. Dr. Lem is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and a Clinical Associate Professor with the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
