Dr. Vaughan Bowen


Dr. Vaughan Bowen is a Royal College Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, with special interest in hand surgery and disability and impairment assessments, at our Calgary Surgical Centre, Canadian Surgery Solutions. He is also a Clinical Professor within the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Founding Lead Physician of the University of Calgary Collaborative Hand Program.

He obtained his Medical Degree (MB ChB) in 1974 from the University of Edinburgh. He completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery, partly in Saskatoon at the University of Saskatchewan and partly in Vancouver at UBC. He did two fellowships, one in Hand Surgery at the University of British Columbia and one in Reconstructive Microsurgery in Melbourne, Australia.

He has a research doctorate from the University of Edinburgh.  He has published 21 book chapters and 119 scientific papers. He has made 116 scientific paper presentations and 328 presentations as an invited speaker/visiting professor in 23 countries. Dr. Bowen has numerous outside interests, the main one being competitive endurance running and cycling.
